Founded in 1915 by George E. Evans, The George Evans Corporation (GEC) was built on steel, ingenuity, and an unwavering commitment to doing things right. What began as a small sheet metal operation serving early automobile manufacturers in the Midwest quickly grew as George Evans strategically chose a rail-connected site to ensure reliable access to steel—an early decision that would shape the company’s future.
By the 1930s, GEC had developed and manufactured its first TOROIDAL® steel reels, designed for shipping telephone and electrical transmission cable. These reels became a cornerstone of the business, earning a reputation for strength, precision, and reliability as demand expanded across the telecommunications and electrical industries.
For over a century, GEC has weathered economic peaks and valleys, world wars, industry shifts, and technological change—yet steel reel manufacturing has remained central to who we are. From supplying Western Electric to supporting the evolution from copper to fiber optic cable, GEC’s steel reels have adapted alongside the industries they serve.
