These are the original Toroidal® Reels. The design team of Western Electric Company (WECO) and GEC developed a low-cost, low-weight, long life steel reel in direct response to electrical wire industry needs. The first production run was in 1939. The sizes were developed to fully utilize the installation trucks and to fit in business and residential neighborhoods without special hauling permits. These reels have become the standard for the industry.
